Our Marae

Te Ōhākī Marae

Te Ōhākī Marae is located on Douglas Rd, Ōkauia. The principal hapū at Te Ōhākī Marae is Ngāti Tokotoko but many of the other seven hapū can whakapapa to Te Ōhākī such as Ngāti Te Rīha. At over 100 years old, Te Ōhākī Marae is the oldest marae on Douglas Rd. The wharehui is named Te Ōhākī and the wharekai is named Te Puna o Te Aroha.

Hinerangi Tāwhaki Marae

Hinerangi Tāwhaki Marae is the first marae on the right-hand side of Douglas Rd, Ōkauia.

Whānau connected to Hinerangi Tāwhaki are likely to whakapapa to the hapū of Ngāti Tāwhaki, Ngāti Kura and Ngāti Rangi.

The wharenui is named Hinerangi Tāwhaki.

This marae is currently not available for hireage.

Tamapango Marae

Tamapango Marae is the second marae on the left-hand side of Douglas Rd, Ōkauia.

Whānau from Tamapango Marae are likely to whakapapa to Ngāti Tamapango and Ngāti Whakamaungārangi.

Tamapango Marae is the only wharenui facing north, a nod to its connection Kāwhia, the tūrangawaewae of Tamapango’s father Uenukuterangihoka, grandfather Whatihua and great grandfather Tāwhao.

Tamapango is currently not in operation.

Tangata Marae

Tangata Marae is the final marae at the end of Douglas Rd, Ōkauia. Whānau from Tangata Marae whakapapa to both Ngāti Hinerangi and Raukawa. Ngāti Tangata is the hapū of Tangata Marae.

The wharenui is named Tangata, the wharekai is named Pupū after his wife, their wharemanaaki are Kura and Te Korowhiti.

Tangata is available for hireage.
